Hello from the Okanagan! I’ve spent the last week with lovely booksellers talking about the fantastic new books coming this spring. Also, due to the distances between the cities of British Columbia, I have gotten quite a lot of audiobook listening done. If you haven’t read Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay or The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater, I highly recommend that you do!
Besides driving and doing a whole lot of talking, I also had the chance to attend an author event put on by the Central Okanagan Teacher-Librarians’ Association, featuring none other than Roy Henry Vickers and Robert “Lucky” Bud. These two talented men spent the last week talking to over 4000 students about their work. 4000! That’s a whole lot of eager young attendees!
The event that I attended was a whole lot more intimate, with a book signing supported by Mosaic Books at Third Coffee in Kelowna. Both Roy Henry and Robert were gracious and had fascinating stories to tell about BC history and their own backgrounds. It must be great to get either of them talking over a beer or a cup of coffee!
I hope that you have found a chance to at least flip through the three picture books that these two talented creators have published. You might also be excited to know that their fourth collaboration, Peace Dancer, is coming out this spring!
(Click the cover images for more information about each of their books.)
Until next week!
