If you have been following our blog for awhile, you’ll have noticed that we Ampersanders really like to celebrate long weekends. My Victoria Day weekend was filled with drinks on patios, poker (I won, no big deal), and Raptors playoff games.
I also did something I had never done before: I made sushi.
I eat Japanese food on a weekly basis, so I was really excited to go to my first sushi-making class. Before we got to rollin’, we learned a little about the history of sushi and some sushi etiquette. Did you know you’re supposed to eat maki and nigiri with your hands and use chopsticks only with sashimi? Who knew! And mixing wasabi in your soy sauce? Big no-no.
Taking this class only left me wanting to learn more about sushi (and Japanese food in general) so I’m really looking forward to Michael Booth’s forthcoming book, Super Sushi Ramen Express, in which he and his family eat their way through Japan. I’m already salivating at the thought of all the delicious food he’ll be describing and I am 100% sure I’ll be booking a flight to Japan as soon as I’m done reading it.
