Oh, Canada!

July 03, 2017 | by

Happy July, friends! Canada Day has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean we’re ready to stop celebrating Canada 150. This week we’ve rounded up a list of some of Ampersand’s favourite places across Canada. Enjoy!

Dallas Road in Victoria, BC

Within walking distance of downtown Victoria,  Dallas Road overlooks the Strait of Juan de Fuca.  The views are ever changing from stormy seas to spectacular sunsets and snow-capped mountains. – Lorna

The Seawall in Vancouver, BC

A bit of a cheat, since this pedestrian and bike path runs 11kms around the city, but there are breathtaking views at every turn, and it’s a joy to spend a sunny day out walking, running, riding or blading – Ali

The Bruce Peninsula, Ontario

I grew up visiting family cottages on Lake Huron in the Bruce Peninsula, and I think it may be my favourite place in the whole world. The water is crystal clear and the rocky beaches are breathtaking. I don’t even mind the rattlesnakes! This is truly my happy place. – Laura

Gairloch Gardens in Oakville, Ontario

An art gallery and public park off of Lake Ontario is a source of many great childhood memories. Growing up I spent many afternoons walking through the beautiful gardens, and having picnics by the water. – Jessica

Burlington Waterfront in Burlington, Ontario

This is one of my favourite places! Whether you’re going to one of Burlington’s large food or music festivals, spending a day at the beach, or just going for a stroll along the walkways and pier, you will have a beautiful view and a wonderful time. – Evette

Kensington Market in Toronto, Ontario

Wandering around on pedestrian Sundays, or hanging out with good friends in warm breezes on late night patios- To me, Kensington and summer are one and the same, and that makes it my favorite place in Canada.  – Kris

The Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, Ontario

One of my favourite places in Canada has always been the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. I used to spend a lot of time there while studying at the U of T, and was thrilled to begin enrolling my son in courses there starting from when he has just a wee lad (which mostly my Mom took him to – thanks, Mom!). It is still our destination at least few times a year, where we have to spend hours at the Discovery Gallery and the Hands-on Biodiversity Gallery – definitely not the same galleries I wandered all those years ago, but I haven’t tired of it yet! – Morgen

High Park in Toronto, Ontario

Growing up within walking distance meant I spent many days there, and it’s still one of my favourite places. – Vanessa

St. John’s, Newfoundland

An amazing place and so many Canadians have never been. I have had the fortune of visiting many times as my parents lived there for a few years; in fact they lived on Signal Hill (see picture) where you could see icebergs in the harbour. Whether it’s kissing a cod or being surrounded by puffins, it’s an awesome place…and the people are fantastic. EVERYONE SHOULD GO! – Saffron

What are some of your favourite Canadian places??
