Spring is a particularly busy season for this humble book rep. My territory extends throughout central BC and the north end of Vancouver Island so, weather permitting, I’m on the road quite a bit to visit my stores.
This past month has seen me in Victoria for the WBRA Book Fair, up to Parksville, across to Tofino and Ucluelet for “vacation” (where I still managed to visit a couple of my accounts) and then back home. Vancouver Island is gorgeous and luckily enough, I remembered to bring my photographer with me (all credit goes to him).
After the island, I got to rest my head at home for a week before heading back to the highways to visit the Okanagan. It’s a long drive (four hours, if the weather is good) and can be a little dicey through the mountain passes but it is so worth it! After all, on the other side of the Coast Mountains is lake country and, more importantly, wine country!!
Sadly summer hasn’t come to the Okanagan valley yet, so I didn’t get to break out my bathing suit and pool floatie, although I did get to stay in a funky hotel.
I feel like I’m probably the luckiest rep working for Ampersand, getting to travel where I do and visit some of the loveliest booksellers and store owners in the country. Even though I get to see a fair amount of the province through work, I know there is still so much to see. Lonely Planet has a new guide to BC coming next month. Time to add to my travel bucket list!!
